Poul Nielsen, a mechanical engineer, and Jonathan Axelsen, a civil engineer, are killed tragically when a truck plows into the coffee shop where they were hanging out. They are unpreparedly transported to the late 19th-century nation of Avalonia, a parallel reality. They’ll have to put in a lot of effort in this world to make just enough money to get by. They want to be the Edison, Chrysler, Rockefeller, Carnegie, Ford, and Westinghouse of this new world and won’t be satisfied with just scraping by.

Poul and Jonathan make the decision to launch an electric power distribution business in a world without electricity. Yet, in order to make their company lucrative, they also want to produce appliances and motors. They establish an automobile manufacturing business after realizing the potential to transform ground transportation. By establishing their own civil engineering company, they take on massive infrastructure projects including metro stations, skyscrapers, bridges, tunnels, and dams. They even make investments in the industry that makes weapons.
