Benjamin Millepied is a French dancer and choreographer in the New York City Ballet Company. He is also famously known as the husband of Natalie Portman and the father of 2 children.
Millepied was born in Lyon, France. He was interested in dance from an early age and started dancing at the Marthy Rambert Dance School in Lyon when he was 10 years old. When he was 17, he joined the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater where he danced for five years. He then became a member of the Paris Opera Ballet where he danced for another five years.
Millepied began his career in film in 2005 when he was featured in the French film “L’Art (délicat) de la séduction” (“The Art (delicate) of Seduction”). He also worked as a choreographer on the film. In the same year, Millepied met Natalie Portman on the set of “Goya’s Ghosts” where he was working as a choreographer and she was acting. He then worked with her again in 2007 when he choreographed the “Viva Vivaldi” music video that she starred in.
In 2008, Millepied was invited to join the Paris Opera Ballet as a choreographer. After two years with the company, he left to focus on his film career and choreograph for other ballet companies.
