Knowing what to pray for or how to pray might be challenging when a loved one or close friend is nearing the end of their life.
How do you behave? A horrible sickness is causing the health of the person you love and care about to rapidly decline. It’s possible that their inside organs are progressively dying. or a machine is currently keeping your loved one alive.
Whatever the situation, you are split between not wanting them to pass away because you would miss them so much and knowing that they would be in a place of final healing by being in heaven when they die. You may experience some degree of emotional whiplash as your emotions fluctuate up and down like a roller coaster.
In these times, it can be beneficial to remind yourself of your loved one’s relationship with God. We are ultimately under God’s control. “If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord” (Romans 14.8, NIV).
But even so, queries come up practically every day.
Is it acceptable to pray for their demise? Is it a sign of a lack of faith if I ask for a peaceful death? Or am I wishing for it to happen out of compassion? These and other worries are understandable in this circumstance. I’ve discovered that asking God in prayer about these issues is preferable and more consoling. And never forget that God is with us at all times and in all places.
These prayers are designed to give you something to say to God when things are difficult. If necessary, you can alter the language to suit your particular circumstance or family member. Let these prayers serve as a gateway for you to travel with your loved one. As you pray, you could discover that your own prayer requests surface. Please post your views about them below.
Prayer for a Peaceful Death
Beautiful Prayer For The Death Of A Loved One
We thank you for all the kindness you have shown them during their lives, O Lord of life and death, who turns man to dust and commands, “Return, O son of Man.”
We especially thank You for introducing them to Your Beloved Son, Jesus Christ.
Jesus, I’m in such severe pain. My fear is paralyzing, and my rage is extreme. I find it difficult to know how to beg or where to begin! In order to remind myself of the truth, I’m moving.
I am aware that you will stay with me when I grieve. I am aware that you are mending brokenness in ways that I will never see. Keep [name] in your arms, ease his/her suffering, and be by his/her side.
I ask in the name of Jesus. Amen
Prayer for a Peaceful Death for Family Member
Lord Jesus, it seems that my (a family member) will soon pass away. Her immune system and the rest of her body can no longer tolerate the trauma she experienced. The surgeries provided some relief, but it appears that they did nothing more than postpone the death of (name), which will likely occur sooner rather than later.
Even speaking those words aloud in a prayer to you, Lord, is exceedingly challenging for me. She hasn’t even passed away yet, yet I already miss her. Since I am powerless to relieve her suffering or otherwise improve her condition, my heart is shattered for her. I’m praying right now because I can do that.
O God, heed my petition. Although I’m not sure I can actually say it, I know in my heart that she has no chance of surviving here any longer than by being wired up to tubes and machines. Please grant her a peaceful transition into your arms, Lord.
She will pass away here, but she will live on in you, and that, Lord, is the best place for her. I offer you my sincere prayer in faith and confidence in you, our God, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

“Lord of Compassion, we implore you to speak up for our good friend, who is on the verge of passing away. We implore you to send them farewell from this world without using harshness because we are aware that this condition is frequently unpleasant in the end.
May they live in quiet and peace without experiencing any bodily suffering. May they understand that they are accompanied by Your angels and that triumph has overcome death.
O Lord, we implore Thee that when we pass away, we may be renewed by Thy holy sacraments, cleansed of all sin, and deserving of being welcomed joyfully into Thy kindness. Through Christ, our Lord. Amen
Comforting Prayer For The Dying
Sovereign God, I ask that you provide all those who are dying a sense of hope and consolation. I beg you to pardon them for all the faults they have committed in this world. Be their Savior, and as they await your coming, let the Bible console them. Let your beloved Son, Jesus Christ, soothe the dying during their final moments. As you wait for them in eternity, give them your consoling touch, give them hope, and reassure them of your truth as it is revealed in the Bible. Through you, dear Son, Jesus Christ, born of the Holy Mary, we pray for all of these things. Amen.
Prayer To Relieve Pain In Death
“I have the impression that a thousand blades are piercing my soul. I feel worn out and depressed. Please assist me! Hear my pleas. Catch me and my family. Give us courage. Be there. help us endure this agony.
Lord God, I’m in constant pain. I am aware that life is not flawless. I now have faith in you. Please relieve [namesuffering, ]’s even if it requires that they depart from this planet.
May the soul of that person find its way to your arms and solace. I pray that you would accept him/her with all of Your love and care.
Although we all try to avoid being egotistical, this person needs some help right now. Your obedient servant [name] has been suffering for a very long time; all I want is that you please make him/her feel better. Please give ear to my plea. Amen.
Prayers Asking Jesus Christ to Show Mercy Before Death
Lord, may everyone who is dying recognize you and reject their beliefs even as they approach death. Let them acknowledge you as the only living and genuine God and Savior, and let them know that you are all-powerful and that men will know of your mercy and love forever. Amen.
Forgiveness Prayer For Loved One Sins
Heavenly Father, I pardon my beloved’s sins. We are aware of Your mercy and grace. Please show my darling mercy. Give him/her eternal joy and pardon for all his/her misdeeds. Through your strength, open the gates of Heaven to the believers.
Please take hold of the spirits of our followers and gently wash away the sins that have kept them from experiencing the eternal freedom that awaits them in Heaven. In the mighty name of our Savior, Jesus Christ, amen.
Prayer for a Peaceful Death for Friend
My best friend is about to pass away, thank God. When I spoke with his family, they informed me that the sickness had already taken control and that no medication would be able to reverse its rapid spread to most of his internal organs. I’m sorry about this for (friend’s name), who was healthy just a year ago. I offer prayers for his family right now as they deal with some extremely difficult choices and feelings.
Lord, all I want is for him to be free from suffering and at peace. I would beg you to do so if there was a way to entirely cure the sickness from his body and allow him to resume living normally. However, that is not the situation; that is not what (name) is actually dealing with.
His life on earth is coming to an end. Even though he is still here with us, I already miss him. But Lord, I humbly ask that you allow my closest friend to enter the realms of paradise in peace. I’m glad he believes in Christ and looks forward to spending eternity with you. Let him receive in your presence a thorough healing in Jesus name. Amen
You Shall Not Lie But Live
We must turn to God in those situations when we have given up hope and ask for redemption and a supernatural breakthrough. God has unlimited power and is not constrained by the findings of your doctor.
You can rely on God to heal your loved one if they suffer from one of the terminal diseases. We need to pray and have faith that God can still do the seemingly impossible for this reason. The truth is that as faith grows, fear vanishes. We will experience the strength of God’s healing touch if we can put our faith and trust in Him.
According to the book of Isaiah 38, “This is what the Lord says: ‘Put your house in order, because you are going to die; you will not recover.’ Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord, ‘Remember, Lord, how I have walked before you faithfully and with wholehearted devotion and have done what is good in your eyes.’ And Hezekiah wept bitterly.”
Look carefully at this verse. You must continue to put your faith in God even if a friend, sibling, or close relative is ill and on the verge of passing away. It can be a terminal illness like cancer, heart failure, or another.
But no matter what, we must have faith that God is able to deliver and save us. God’s envoy told Hezekiah, “You will not recover,” but that didn’t stop him from praying. In the end, God kept his promise and declared:
“Go and tell Hezekiah, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of your father David, says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears; I will add fifteen years to your life.'”
As a result, we won’t settle with the present situation. We’ll arrive at the battleground and offer faith-based prayers. We shall fervently pray for divine intervention in your friend’s or family member’s life. We shall ask God to grant them recovery from their illness or ailment.
