The Nigeria Higher Education Foundation (NHEF) is pleased to share the results of the 6th Annual Scholarship Essay Competition. The competition this year aims to provide a forum for Nigerian university students to think critically and creatively about current issues that are crucial to the country’s long-term growth and development.
The subject of this edition of the competition is “The Role of Digital Technology in the Nigerian Higher Education System,” in light of the COVID-19 Pandemic. They welcome applications from inspired students from all NHEF Partner Universities and look forward to receiving your submissions..
The COVID-19 pandemic has dismantled global conventions and most notably impacted the activities of higher education institutions. Adapting to a new stay-at-home landscape, global education systems have responded with digitally innovative methods of teaching and learning that will redefine the future of classroom training. Using relevant examples, critically analyze the role of digital technology in transitioning higher education in Nigeria to a post-pandemic system.
Benefits of NHEF Scholarship Essay Competition
The winner of the Grand Prize will receive $100,000, a new laptop, one online certificate course, a one-year internet subscription, and one year of university tuition. The First Runner-Up would receive $75,000 in addition to a one-year internet subscription and one year of university fees. The second-place finisher will receive $50,000, a one-year internet subscription and one year of university fees.
*The online certificate course may not exceed $100 on Udemy, Coursera, Alison or EDX.
**1-year internet subscription estimated at 24Gb on the winner’s preferred mobile network.
Who can Apply for NHEF Scholarship Essay Competition
Only students enrolled at NHEF Partner Universities are eligible to participate in this competition. The NHEF will check each contestant’s enrollment with the University Registrar.
Ahmadu Bello University, Bayero University, Kano, Kwara State University, University of Ibadan, University of Lagos, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and University of Port Harcourt are among the NHEF Partner Universities.
This competition is not open to previous winners of the NHEF Essay Competition and Scholars Program.
How to Enter NHEF Scholarship Essay Competition.
Essays must abide by the following guidelines prior to submission:
Entries should demonstrate the author’s ability to analyze and debate ideas/ethical principles, as well as demonstrate research methodology with a sufficiently comprehensive description.
Each student is only allowed to submit one entry.
A title page, bibliography, and a scanned copy of the contestant’s current Student ID must all be included in the essay.
Each page’s header must include the student’s name, university, and registration ID#.
The essay should not be longer than 2000 words. It must be double-spaced, in 12pt Times New Roman font, with numbered pages and one-inch margins on all sides except the bibliography and title page.
In the article, references should be mentioned and clearly defined.

- Entries must be submitted in PDF format.
- All entries must be submitted via e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org by 11:59 p.m. (WAT) on May 28, 2021.
