Extremely difficult days at work or home can happen to anyone. Prayer for Hope–Praying for Others
When we feel helpless, praying for others can actually help us. Helping others has been shown in studies to improve our own mental health. The same can be said for our prayer lives.
Rita Buettner, a writer for Catholic Review, writes that praying for others “helps us feel connected to people and places and issues beyond ourselves. It broadens our perspective on the difficulties that others face. It broadens our horizons. It assists us in growing in gratitude and hope.”

King David said that he found his courage and power in the living God. Psalm 18 verse 1 tells us “I love you, God— you make me strong. Ah, Lord God, Holy Lover of my soul, all that is within me will be glad when you enter it. You are my pride and the reason for my heart’s jubilation. In my time of need, you are both my hope and my refuge. Set me free from all wicked desires, heal my heart of all excessive attachments, sanitize and purify me from the inside out so that I may be able to love, be brave enough to endure suffering, and be steadfast enough to endure. Nothing in heaven or on earth is sweeter, braver, more complete, or better than love since it is a creation of God and finds its only rest in Him. O Heavenly Father, gaze upon all your people who suffer from resentment, anxiety, uncertainty, guilt, frustration, grief, loss, memory, a lack of patience, pain, regret, and melancholy as well as from selfishness, temptation, and weakness. “All things work together for the good of those who love God, who are called according to his purpose,” your Holy Word assures us. And it indicates that, even when we do not understand, you make all of these circumstances work for your good purpose in our lives. Please remind us of your invitation to “Cast all your cares upon me” and the accompanying promise that “I care for you.” Your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord, through whom. Amen.

Dear Father, I have no idea what to do right now, but You do. Please convert this uncertainty to confidence. Not in myself, but rather in You. I am despondent because there is no solution in sight, and I am desperate for Your Spirit to fill me and guide me in the right direction. I have lost faith in myself because I am poor and in need. You heard King David’s prayer and provided him with exactly what he required. Father, I choose to believe in You. I believe in Your timing as You answer my prayer and show me what to do.
