We have been given the incredible power to make a difference in the lives of the children we love as grandparents, mentors, and leaders. Though many of us pray for our adult children and grandchildren on a daily basis and believe in the power of prayer, it can be difficult to know how to pray strategically. Specifically. We might even find it difficult to know what to pray for.
Today, there is a battle for our families, and the enemy would love nothing more than to destroy everything we cherish in this life. He’ll do everything he can to entice our grandchildren to follow him down dark and broken paths. Though the times we live in are vastly different from those we grew up in, every generation will face strong temptations, and Satan’s tactics will always be fierce. He makes every effort to keep us and our loved ones away from God and the power of His love and forgiveness. However, we do not have to let him win.

Prayer Points When Praying for Grandchildren
So, what should you ask God for when you’re praying for your grandchildren? Here are some areas of emphasis to include in your prayers:
- Appeals for health: Good mental, physical, and spiritual health is one of the prayers for grandchildren that you can offer. Consider incorporating these appeals into your prayers.
- Appeals for heart protection: In this confusing and chaotic world, consider praying for the hearts and minds of your grandchildren. As they deal with societal chaos, this becomes increasingly important.
- Daily guidance for life trajectory: Another area worth praying about is their life’s trajectory. Consider praying to God for daily inspiration and guidance as they navigate life.
- Future prayers: Another area of prayer is for the future. Consider your grandchildren’s lives and pray that God will lead them to the purpose, career, and husband or wife He has chosen for them.
There are other aspects to consider when praying for grandchildren, but these suggestions will get you started. Let us now look at some specific prayers.
Prayer For All Our Grandchildren
Thank You, Loving Heavenly Father, for the gift of my precious children, and what a joy it is to see my grandchildren grow up and learn about You. Thank You, Father, for each little life, and I lift each one up to You Lord, praying that You would surround them with Your love throughout their lives by Your grace and love.
I pray that you will guard and guide them all, as well as uphold and protect them. May they all come to know You, Lord, as their personal Saviour, and may they all come to a profound understanding of all You are and all You have done for them. Oh Lord, I beseech You to enter each person’s heart and life as they accept you as their Lord and personal Saviour.
I pray that as they grow into their teens and young adults, You will keep their hearts and minds focused on You and on Jesus for all of their needs. Protect each one from the world’s philosophies and mindsets that are so contrary to the truth of Scripture, and may each one grow in grace and faith as they develop in wisdom and discernment.
Protect them from the evils of this age, keep them from temptations, and assist them in living godly lives and developing as responsible adults who will teach their own children the wonderful truth of Salvation through Christ Jesus our Lord. I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen
Prayer For The Future Spouse Of My Grandchildren
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for each of my beautiful grandchildren, whom You have so graciously brought into my life. They all bring me such joy and pleasure, for which I thank You.
Lord, You have planned every day of their lives, and I pray that You will continue to lead and guide, instruct and correct them as they grow into adults. Father, I also pray that You will instill in each of them a heavenly perspective, a true understanding of the Christian life, and spiritual maturity so that they will grow in grace and in a right relationship with You.
I pray that God will bring the right spouse into the lives of each of my precious grandchildren. In Your grace, I pray that they are given the husband or wife of Your choosing so that they can form a threefold cord with You that is difficult to break.
Thank You so much, Lord, for each of my grandchildren. I place them all in Your hands. May they sense Your calling on their lives and grow into mighty men and women who love You deeply and have complete faith in You. I pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.
Prayer For A Grandchild Who Has Gone Astray
Dear Loving Lord, how sad I am that my precious grandchild, whom I adore, has chosen to walk away from you and seemingly forge a future without God.
Lord, You know that from the cradle, this dear grandchild has been taught the truth of Scripture and has been covered in prayer from many quarters, even before birth. And, Lord, You know that as a child, they were taught the truth about the Lord Jesus and even made a commitment to accept You as their Saviour at a young age. It grieves and saddens me, Father, and I beg You to intervene in their lives and bring them back to You.
Nothing, Father, can take Your little lambs from Your or Your Father’s hands. I trust You, Lord, to keep Your hand on my grandchild and guide them back into Your loving arms of forgiveness.
Thank You, Lord, that even when we are negligent and unfaithful to You, You never abandon us. Lord, I place my grandchild’s future in Your hands and pray that You will do whatever it takes to bring them back to the path of truth. I pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.
That They Learn To Trust Jesus As Their Saviour
Heavenly Father, I lift up each of my grandchildren to You and thank You for each unique life in Your eyes. Lord, I pray that each of them will come to know Christ as their Saviour early in life and desire a close walk with You throughout their adolescence, their twenties, and adulthood.
May they come to love Your Word and recognize the importance of prayer in their lives, so that they can grow into godly men and women in Christ Jesus.
Lord, I pray that all of us who have influence over these young lives will teach them about the Lord Jesus and the wonderful truths in Your Word, both in word and by example, just as Timothy’s mother and grandmother did. I pray that you will guide each of my precious grandchildren into all truth and bring them to true saving faith. For You have promised that children raised in the way they should go will not stray from it as they grow older.
Keep each one under Your protection and love, I pray, and may they grow in grace, discernment, and wisdom throughout their lives. I pray that You will use each one for Your glory and praise. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
