Lord Jesus, we desperately need your assistance. Our marriage is disintegrating, and we keep stumbling over the word “divorce.” We’ve both been listening to other “voices” telling us to give up because the fight isn’t worth it. We don’t want to ruin our relationship or break the promises we made to each other. And we understand Your desire for healing. But we’re at a loss for what to do. Show us where we can begin to close the gaps and exits we’ve created due to selfishness, apathy, or pride. Show us what we can’t see for ourselves. You are the Truth, the Way, and the Life. We’ve abandoned our first love, and we need your help to find our way back.
Restore a willing spirit in us, and help us to avoid pointing fingers or responding defensively. Teach us how to truly hear and listen to one another. The actions, attitudes, and emotions that have led us here did not happen overnight. And we know it will take time to undo everything that has led us here. You have promised to show us the right path. You are a wise Counselor who knows exactly what we require. All of our hopes and dreams are in You. If outside Christian counsel is required to lead us back and “start over,” please refer us to those who can truly assist. Lord, you are the solution. We do not want to divorce. Amen

Nothing seems to be going right in our marriage, Lord Jesus. We’ve been arguing about a lot lately. Or we walk out in rage or silence, unable to deal with any problems. Sometimes we make a big deal out of minor issues that don’t really matter, or we hide important issues. But, Lord, everything matters in Your eyes. When pebbles pile up day after day, they eventually become mountains. When did it all begin? Did we withdraw into our respective worlds? Have you become too preoccupied to care? Did we stop paying attention to You and each other?
Teach us how to communicate again—how to simply talk to one another with courtesy and kindness. Show us what love and respect look like again, Lord, and what it means to honor and mutually submit to the other as a man and woman in love with You. We’ve forgotten everything. And we have a feeling that if we don’t deal with even minor issues now, we’ll run into much bigger problems later. Perhaps we’ve forgotten what true love is like. Or perhaps we never really knew. Whatever the case may be, Lord, our marriage is in trouble. We require your assistance.
Whatever the circumstances, we want to face them together—with You on our side. You have told us that we will face difficulties on this earth, but that You are the great Overcomer. We can mend the tears and correct the mistakes with You, Lord. We can have a happy marriage if we work together. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

We can no longer remain stagnant in our marriage, Lord God. We can’t move forward, and we won’t go backward. Our relationship feels shattered, like a phonograph needle stuck in the same groove. As a result, we are contacting You. Please keep us from becoming yet another divorce statistic. We resist our adversary who wishes to end this marriage in the name and through the blood of Jesus Christ.
Lord, we beseech You to rebuke the devourer who is attempting to sever the beautiful covenant that began in us as a couple. In times of trouble, we turn to You, our Defender and Protector, our Refuge and Shelter. We declare in Jesus’ name that our adversary, the devil, has no right to interfere with the sacred construction of our relationship because You live in us and are greater than the one who roams the earth looking for victims to destroy.
We know it is Your will for us to pray and believe for our marriage’s healing, and we are willing to work on it together. We stake our lives on Your promise, Lord, that when we put our trust in You, You will direct our paths. You have united our two spirits and sealed them with the bond of Your Holy Spirit. And we leave no room for our adversary to divide what God has joined together. Your Word brings us the truth, and we will fight for our marriage with You as our Supreme Warrior and Commander, and the third strand in our relationship together, wearing the spiritual armor You have given us. Lord, examine our hearts. Convict us and cleanse our lives of all the hardness and ick that is impeding the flow of Love. Reestablish our relationship with You. Give us the courage to be brave. Replace your fear of what might happen and the future with Christ-centered courage. We cannot be strong at this time. We’re broken and barely alive. However, You, the living God, are our strength.
Empower us with humility, gentleness, patience, peace, and unity through the Holy Spirit of the One True God (Ephesians 4:2-3). Stop our rage from becoming bitterness and hatred. Forgive us when we lose our cool and lose our sanity in front of our spouse.
Take everything, including our marriage and our lives. We’ve reached the end of ourselves and our ability to mend what’s broken in ourselves, our spouses, and our marriages. Your sovereignty takes precedence over ours. Break it all if necessary to completely restore what has been lost. We believe You for who You say You are as we walk through the unknown state of our futures.
