Firefighters accept the daily challenge of walking into fires. They are among us heroes who willingly face the shadow of death and great peril.
What kind of hope is offered in Psalm 23:4? The rod was a club worn at the waist that was used for counting, guiding, rescuing, and protecting sheep in addition to serving as a symbol of authority. God is in charge of everything. He is in charge and is aware of our situation and our obstacles. His hand of safety never wavers. When our strength wanes, our devoted and compassionate Father exhorts us to cling to and depend upon Him. His might and His love inspire us to accomplish seemingly unattainable feats. The staff was a walking tool that served as a weapon when necessary, commanded and guided the sheep, and provided assistance. Today, we pray to the enabling power of God’s Word over firefighters.

God, give me the strength to save a life, no matter how old it is, whenever I am called to duty.
Assist me in embracing a small child before it’s too late, or in saving an elderly person from the horror of that fate.
Allow me to be alert and hear the faintest shout, and put out the fire quickly and efficiently.

Jehovah Shalom, our God of peace, You are happy when someone sacrifices their life for another because that is how Your kingdom operates. For all of the heroic firefighters who have sacrificed their lives to put out flames and save others, I send my prayers and supplications. We applaud their labor and thank and honor You for their leadership. Through Christ, dear Lord, may You instruct us on how to live just as selflessly as they did. Amen.

We ask them to engage in absurd circumstances. Save these people from any harm and peril. To prevent the Evil One from visiting them with his anger, send Your holy angels to be with them. Amen.

Lord Jesus, You promise to protect me from all harm and to keep an eye on me both now and forever. Lord, please bless me as I set out on another call to put out fires.
