In the previous episode of our daily bible study, we discussed a powerful message titled, how to show true kindness. We saw in the book of Exodus that while the Israelites were leaving Egypt, they took the remains of Joseph along with them. This is because, before Joseph died, he requested from his brothers to take his bones with them when God takes them home.

In fulfilment of this request, as the Israelites were leaving Egypt, Moses saw to it that the remains of Joseph were taking along with them. We learned from that very episode that, what Moses did was a true act of kindness to Joseph.

This is because, Joseph was not alive to reward Moses for what he did, hence, Moses could not have done that gesture bearing in mind that he will get an earthly reward. We learned that, the best kindness that can be done is one did without expecting earthly reward. We also learned from that episode of our daily bible study, how nice it is to do favor and kindness to people, without embarrassing them by announcing what you have done for them.

If you have not watched that episode of our daily bible study, the video is in the playlist, you can watch it after watching today’s episode.

In today’s episode, we will discuss the topic that says; Avoid trouble, but prepare to tackle it.

In one of the previous episodes of our daily bible study, we discussed a bible nugget titled, trust God and His plan. In that very episode, we saw that, when God freed the Israelites, He did not lead them through the country of the Philistines, because God knew that the people might turn back to Egypt if they meet war on their way, he had to take them round the desert.

However, the subsequent verse of the bible where we read the message above, says something that is somewhat confusing.  Exodus chapter 13 verse 18 says, so, God led the people around by the desert road toward the reed sea. The Israelites went up out of Egypt ready for battle. How could this verse tell us that the Israelites left Egypt ready for battle when the preceding verse told us that they were avoiding battle?

The lesson is clear. We are expected to do everything within our power to avoid violence, but we are also expected to be prepared to tackle violence in case it comes uninvited.

Expect the best, but prepare for the worst. Do not fold your arms and expect things to always work out as planned. You expect the best to happen, but then, you should also prepare for the worst. Always have a contingency plan. God is telling us to be shrewd. Do your best to avoid trouble, but when it comes, make sure you are prepared to tackle it.

God prevented the Israelites from engaging in a fight, but He also made them know they should be prepared for battle in case it comes.

Child of God, be wise, avoid trouble, but be prepared to tackle it.

May God grant us more wisdom to face the challenges of life. Amen.
